How to Remove User Name from Windows XP Start Menu

In the Windows XP Start Menu screenshot below, you can see a User name ‘Knight‘ in the top left corner. In this post you are going to learn how to remove that User name from start menu in Windows XP.

BTW – I wonder why one would wish that user name to disappear! Even then If someone wants to know how to do it then here it is:

Note: Windows classic style does not have a User name in Start Menu so this trick only applies to XP style menu.

Changes in Registry

Go to

Start Menu > Run

Type regedit.exe in run box, and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > Explorer

Right click in the right pane and Create a new DWORD Value and rename to NoUserNameInStartMenu and after renaming, double click the value and put Value = 1.

If you want to see your User name back on the Start Menu then set value = 0 or just delete that value and log off to see the changes.
