I have followed your process to back up my email messages under Windows Live Mail 2011 and Windows 7 o/s. When the copy is supposed to take place I get an instant message to say this has been done but only a few files appear in my back up folder, these are not recognizable as the folders I wanted to copy.

Any advice?

Its working for me. In step-5 if you choose “Selected Folder” option then make sure you are not just selecting the parent folder but also selecting the folder which containg emails (e.g. Inbox)

I have tried again and only one sub folder from the Inbox was copied over with the one email it contained. yet I had clicked all the folders and subfolders I wanted to back up.

Is the problem because I have, within my Inbox, folders, sub-folders and ina few cases sub, sub-folders?

I am trying to copy to a blank folder in every case.

I have same problem, even when I try to do more maps at once.

I have to fly to an other solution. Just making maps at the backup device and copy all emails from a map in WLM to the new map. And so for all maps in WLM.

A second way I always do is to send important emails to my gmail-account.

Why users still use to read news papers when in this technological world
all is presented on net?

What program do you use to open your backup files? I want to be able to read those emails if I need to because I am deleting them out of my email inbox. Any help would be appreciated!
