Adobe Creative Suite automatically launched its auto updater to check for updates. If you want to disable auto update there are different ways to do that for Windows and MAC users
Window OS Users
If your computer is connected to internet you can disable the auto update quickly
- Goto …\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater 5
- RUN AdobeUpdater.exe
- on update screen click the Preferences button
- Uncheck the automatically update check box and click OK, you are done.
If you don’t have an internet connection
or due to any other reason for example in my case when i run the adobeUpdater.exe file i didn’t find any preferences button on it so i disable this by modifying the AdobeUpdaterPreferences.dat file manually
- Goto …\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater 5
- RUN AdobeUpdater.exe
- It will give you message there is no Internet connection, click Cancel
- For Windows XP users Goto …\Documents and Settings\(username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Updater5 For Windows Vista users Goto …\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\Updater5
- open AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat in Notepad.
- Find <AutoCheck>1</AutoCheck> and change the value from 1 to 0. or if there are not tags like this add tags <AutoCheck>0</AutoCheck> anywhere between the <AdobeUpdater></AdobeUpdater> tags.
- Save and close the AdobeUpdaterPrefs.dat file.
