How to Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 with Redsn0w

If you want a tethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1 with the latest iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w tool then follow the guide written below to do that.

Note: This guide will only work to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 over A4-devices including iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, original iPad 1, iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 3G, so it does not support iPhone 4S, iPad 3 and iPad 2.

Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 with Redsn0w

Requirements:

  • Download redsn0w 0.9.10b8b for Mac / Windows
  • Download iOS 5.1 for your iDevice
  • Download latest iTunes
  • Upgrade your iDevice to iOS 5.1.1 by grabbing over-the-air update (OTA) by navigating through “Settings” > “General” > “Software Update” on device, or download iOS 5.1.1 via iTunes direct link
  • Back up your iDevice through iTunes, just as a precaution

Step-1

Open Redsn0w, click “Extras”

Step-2

Click on “Select IPSW” and browse for your downloaded iOS 5.1 IPSW file from your computer, in a while Redsn0w will recognize your iOS 5.1 file

Step-3

Go back to RedSn0w Main screen and click on “Jailbreak” button

Step-4

Now, follow the on screen instructions to put your iDevice into DFU Mode

Step-5

When your iDevice will get enter to DFU mode, RedSn0w will start identifying and build process and also it will load jailbreak data

Step-6

Click on “Install Cydia” check box to select it, and click next button to initiate jailbreak

Step-7

On completion of process, your iDevice will reboot

Step-8

Now, again put your iDevice into DFU mode

Step-9

From main screen of RedSn0w, click “Extras” > “Just Boot” for a tethered boot of your iDevice and then you will find Cydia icon on springboard
