Access hidden file explorer Android Marshmallow

This is first time Android update comes with this built-in file manager. This stock file manager app can perform basic functionality like copy, search, sort, delete, share very well but, moving and creating new files/folders are not allowed yet. You will not see any icon for the file explorer app and you need to access through setting menu.

  • You need to go to main settings of your Android device and from settings choose “Storage & USB” option.
  • Here, you will see internal storage usage by content type and you need to scroll-down to the end and choose explore.
  • This will launch the hidden file explorer in Marshmallow and you can see list of all files and folder on internal and external storage of the device.

Once the file explorer has been launched, you can start using it without any trouble. Tap on any folder to navigate and see the content of specific folder. In the file explorer you will see a sort option which can be used in order to arrange your files and how you want to view them.

If you want to search any specific file, you can take help from search option at the top of your file explorer.

If you need to delete any file or share it, you need to tap and hold the file icon for a little longer to see the options. If you want any specific file to be copied to a different location, you can tap the three-dot menu button on the top right corner of your screen. From the drop-down menu you may choose copy to option and choose whichever destination you may want.

This file explorer may not be as good as any third party browser which you download from web but at least it is the one which comes with your Marshmallow update. You can perform all important tasks with this file explorer without downloading any third-party file explorer.
