Are you out of disk space on Windows computer? If you want to reclaim and free up some space on the hard disk then follow this guide to remove temp, installation, recycle bin, etc files that created during updating Windows, software installation or browsing internet. How many have you already installed Windows 10 as their new operating system? I am sure many of you must be planning to install it soon if you have not installed it already. There is one important thing which you need to notice while upgrading your operating system to Windows 10.

You will notice massive disk space consumption in your computer after your operating system has been upgraded to Windows 10. When an operating system is upgraded, the new operating system will save your current operating system files in case you are not happy with the new one. If you are not happy you can revert back to previous Windows with the help of saved OS files.

If you have recently upgraded your operating system to Windows 10, give it some time. If you are completely satisfied with features of Windows 10, you can get rid of those saved files to claim free disk space of around 10 GB. In order to free up space after updating your operating system to Windows 10, follow the steps given below:

Reclaim Disk Space on Windows

Once your operating system is being upgraded to Windows 10 and you satisfied with current updated Windows, restart your computer.

  • Open up the File Explorer and right-click on C: drive or the drive where Windows OS is installed then choose Properties from the menu.
  • From the dialogue box, go to the General tab and click on ‘disk clean-up’.
  • A new window for disk clean-up will be opened. Click on ‘clean up system files’. Once you click on that button, the computer will scan your system for the files.
  • Once this window is relaunched again, you will see many files with an option to be deleted. You can select any or all the files which you are not planning to use anymore and choose to delete them. This will remove lots of temporary files from your system to make some space on the hard drive.

Once you have performed the disk clean-up process, you can delete all of the old files from the previous operating system. By deleting these files from the old operating system, you will successfully free approx. 10 GB of storage in your system. You can perform this disk cleanup method on other drives as well that may help you to remove temp or unwanted files.
