How to Mute Startup Sound on Mac

When you are working in silent office environment or in a study room then you may want to turn off startup sound of Mac. So, here we are writing the process which you may follow to control or completely turn off startup sound.

Control startup sound on Mac OS X

Step 1

Download and install StartupSound.prefPane

Step 2

Now click on Apple logo > System Preferences


Step 3

Under Other section click on Startup Sound icon

You can controls or mute Mac startup sound using volume slider or you can turn the startup sound off by clicking on Mute checkbox

Just for prevention measure always Click the lock to prevent further changes on above screen.

You can use this guide on any Apple MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, MacMini or computer that using Apple Mac OS X.

thanks for this tip because we can not mute the start up sound by other available options of volume on mac

Unfortunately, StartupSound.prefPane doesn’t work with Lion–even says so on the developers website.

on Lion,u just need to lowered down the volume on the Mac preference.yes,the normal audio volume
no need any special hacks

Dear buy,

First of all you should learn how to behave in a normal society. Then, once you have done that, try to switch your brain on and listen to other people, if you are able to.
The startup sound of imac is just annoying and an operating system that does not foresee a simple way to silence it without changing the volume settings is just crap.
