How to Go Live on YouTube from Mobile or Computer

YouTube, one of the leading websites of the world make it simple to go live with news, gameplay, music or for any reason with the help of Live Streaming feature. YouTube Go live features is available to everyone so you can easily go live and stream your video either from your desktop or directly from your smartphone / tablet. Instagram and Facebook also have the same feature for their users.

How to Go Live on YouTube from Mobile or Computer

In this guide, we will take you to step by step instructions and teach how to go live on YouTube. You can use whatever camera smartphone you have or you can use your desktop for this purpose too.

Verify your account to go live on YouTube

Before starting a live video on YouTube, you need to prove your identity first with your phone number and make yourself sure about proving your identity to YouTube. When you have agreed with the terms and conditions of the YouTube, YouTube will take maximum 24 hours to report you back about your access to the live stream feature of going LIVE. Once you have done with the verification part, you can go live on YouTube.

First of all, you need to register yourself for the live streaming. Follow our steps to register yourself on YouTube successfully.

  1. Open your web browser and go to YouTube website or mobile users can use the YouTube app.
  2. If you haven’t logged in yet, log in by using your YouTube account. Make yourself sure about signing in with the account you want to use for the live stream.
  3. Now, click the Camera icon top-right side and then select Go live option. By clicking on it you will be taken up directly to the live registration page.
  4. On the next page click the Get started button and verify your account.
  5. From the drop-down menu, find the country name from the list and select it.
  6. Now, choose how do you want to deliver the verification code to you either through and voice call or just text. Select the appropriate option and then enter your phone number and click on submit. Please enter your currently working mobile number.
  7. Check your mobile for the voice call or confirmation code text. Type the 6 digits code on YouTube page. Then click on submit.
  8. Click continue which will be at the top of the page.

Now have some patience because YouTube will take 24 hours to verify your account. If your account is in good standings and your identity is verified then you are officially allowed to stream live videos on YouTube.

Going live on YouTube from computer

  1. Make sure you follow the above steps to verify your account. We recommend to use Google Chrome browser and go to youtube.com/webcam. You can also use Firefox or Safari browser for YouTube live.
  2. Most of the modern laptops already come with a built-in webcam. But for the desktop computer, you must set up an external camera.
  3. Once your camera is ready, click the Video Camera icon and select Go live.
  4. Click on ALLOW WHEN PROMPTED. By doing it you will give access to your web browser to use your webcam.
  5. In the title text box, type whatever name you want to give it to your LIVE STREAM. Choose title wisely because this will appear on the display of your stream once you upload it on your channel.
  6. Now scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on next.
  7. After 3 seconds, YouTube will use your webcam to take a photo of your stream and will put it as THUMBNAIL of your stream. If you don’t like the thumbnail you can always have a chance to retake it by just clicking on RETAKE THUMBNAIL.
  8. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find the option of GO LIVE click on it.
  9. Now it’s up to you to End you stream when needed to end. Click END STREAM option which will be at the bottom of the page. This will end your stream and save it to your YouTube channel automatically.

Going LIVE from mobile

For mobiles platform, YouTube live is available on iOS 8+ and Android 5.0+. Older versions of iOS and Android don’t support YouTube Live feature.

  1. Open your YouTube app from your iPhone, iPad or Android phone. Log in to your account if you haven’t logged in yet.
  2. Now, tap the Video Camera icon on the top of the screen and then tap GO LIVE. YouTube App might ask for permission to access your Camera and Microphone. Allow when prompted, doing that you granted YouTube app to use the camera microphone and photos of your device.
  3. In the title text box, type whatever name you want to give it to your LIVE STREAM. Choose title wisely because this will appear on the display of your stream once you upload it on your channel
    NOTE: you cannot put your stream as private when using the YouTube mobile app.
  4. After 3 seconds, YouTube will use your camera to take a photo of your stream and will put it as THUMBNAIL of your stream. If you don’t like the thumbnail you can always have a chance to retake it by just clicking on RETAKE THUMBNAIL.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find the option of GO LIVE click on it.
  6. You may have to tap stream in portrait to confirm your smartphone’s orientation.
  7. Now it’s up to you to End you stream when needed to end. Tap on X sign which will be at the top of the screen. This will end your stream and save it to your YouTube channel automatically. For Android users, you need to tap on OK to END STREAM.
