What is svchost.exe?
The svchost.exe works as a host process for Windows operating system (Windows 7, Vista and XP) and hosts or contains other services or processes which are required by Windows to perform different functions.
In Windows (XP, Vista, Windows 7) multiple svchost.exe can run at the same time and it could be possible that one instance of svchost.exe contains local or network service or services for a program and other instance of svchost.exe contains services for Windows system.

The Windows svchost.exe file is not a virus but there is possibility that any virus sits on your system by using the same name as svchost.exe and defiantly it will not show an error message because of that as it is a virus, but you can identify the original svchost.exe from its location (see: how to check process location) and if you find svchost.exe on any other location than the above specified one then definitely that will be a fake file so you may remove that from system.
