Windows sidebar and desktop gadgets were very famous and great feature in Windows 7 and Vista but they are removed from 8, 8.1 and 10 by Microsoft because they have some security problems with Windows 8 and 10.
It explained by Microsoft as these gadgets are contained security vulnerabilities, which can be exploited by hackers and they can do whatever they want with your computer if you are sign-in with your administrator account, they can gain control over your computer by exploiting a vulnerability in gadgets. It’s also harmful if malicious gadget created by attackers. If they get you to install malicious gadget then it can run any harmful code with full permission on your computer. Which mean they are not lightweight and simple programs. They are third-party vulnerabilities which can’t be fixing and have full access to your computer. By these reasons Microsoft recommend to its Windows 7 users to disable these gadgets by download official Microsoft Fix IT tool.
